Do yourself a treat and don’t fall for online tricks [FREE EBOOK]
Online trolls, sockpuppets, vandals and other frights
Bad characters do not only act in tales and horror movies, obviously. There is a lot of malicious behaviour around us, online too. And sadly, it isn’t just limited to innocent pranks and tricks. Did you know that 73% of adult internet users admit to having witnessed harassment online (according to the survey provided by Pew Research Center)?
As internauts, we deal with disinformation and forgery a lot. There are tons of fake news around our social channels, fake reviews in the e-commerce industry, fake influencers, fake accounts. Trolls just wait for us to feed them with our frustration, anger and sadness.
If you are a business owner, the bar is raised that much higher. You worry not only about yourself becoming the victim of some online fraud and the society manipulated with fake news providers, but also about your company being attacked by trolls or wasting money on fake brand ambassadors.
The brave IT knights in their shaining AI armours
But remember when your grandma told you spooky stories? There would always a brave young hero come along to overcome all that scary and difficult circumstances.
Not that long ago, if asked about what bothers us on the web, most of us would probably point out to viruses, but then we all got antivirus software. A few years later we suffered from SPAM and a lot of irrelevant content. And again, computer science answered with quite efficient anti-SPAM filters. Thanks to enormous amounts of data that is at electronic mail providers’ disposal, they have the means to train their AI and come up with solutions.
That’s pretty much how it works with the development in general so nobody would expect any less of software engineers in this day and age. The problems have changed, sure, but research and development teams all around the world are burning the midnight oil at their labs and uni chambers to provide the common people with counter-cures for all that bothers us online. They train their neural networks and program natural language processing algorithms to fight malicious internet users.
