Create first topic

Topics, to put it simply, are search queries SentiOne uses to retrieve the mentions about your brand from our database. Topics consist of keywords and search rules you can set using our one-step topic creator.

In SentiOne there are two kinds of the topic set-up:
1. Basic Mode
2. Advanced Rules

As this is Getting Started it will focus more on basics information. Go to Topics section to learn more.

To create new topic go to Topics screen and click Create button. You will be redirected to the Topic Creator.

The topic set-up should begin with naming the topic. The name should define monitored issue in a concise, as brief as possible (despite the lack of character limit) way, easily recognizable for team members.

The topic set-up in basic mode consists of a few steps:
Step 1. Add Keywords.
Step 2. Add Facebook (optional).
Step 3. Add Sources (optional).
Step 4: Set up additional Options.

Step 1: Add keywords

When you enter the Topic Creator, there are two windows open by default where you can start typing keywords (these are simple keywords – apply to the content and the context of mentions). However, if you want to use other rules, close both windows, then click Keywords and select an appropriate rule. Type keywords you want to include in your search. If you see unwanted content in the results, you can add exluding keywords later.

One keyword is enough for the system to display the results immediately:

Step 2. Add Facebook (optional)

Adding Facebook fanpage leads to obtaining mentions (apart from statements containing keywords from all sources) published by both the administrator and users of a given fanpage. Apart from fanpages, you can also monitor groups and events.

You can add Fanpage, Group or Event type of rule, depending on the Facebook object you wish to monitor.

If you wish to retrieve all the mentions from a certain fanpage, choose Fanpage rule. Then, in the field that will be added to the creator, start typing its name. SentiOne will autosuggest the fanpages, as you type.

If you wish to retrieve only specific mentions from the fanpage, containing keywords you specified earlier – choose Fanpage (filtered) rule type.

WARNING! You need to set the keyword rule before the Fanpage (filtered) rule to get the proper results.

Step 3. Add sources (optional)

Similarily to Facebook based rules, you can filter mentions from any URL or domain. To do so, hover over Source rule in the creator, and choose:

Domains to monitor or exclude from the results mentions from specific forum or website. This rule allows to narrow down the mentions to a particular domain. The domain rule application does not require defining keywords to work properly – by chosing only a domain, you will obtain all mentions from a particular source regardless of their content.

Urls to monitor mentions from specific Instagram or Twitter account, even from single thread on chosen forum. The rule works analogously to the Domain rule, narrowing the mentions down to a particular link (like a thread on a forum).

Language to narrow the results down to only one language.

Step 4: Options

Additional options allow to ignore diacritical marks, set email alerts to a given topic and also to create a new dashboard.

Example

Following rules will create topic that: monitors SentiOne keyword, all posts on SentiOne fanpage and exclude all mentions published on the pointed source.

In SentiOne you can use rules based on Facebook sources and any other type of sources.

Additional Rules instruction in Basic Mode:

Keywords:
Possible special characters * / ?
– a keyword with ending ? will collect results of used keyword + one-letter suffixes (attention: a phrase 'internet?' WILL NOT pick up the word 'internet')
– a keyword with ending * will collect results of used keyword + suffix (attention: a phrase 'internet*' WILL pick up the word 'internet')
Examples: internet, internet?, internet*

In mentions we will receive respectively: internet, internetu, internet, internecie, internetowy, internetów (different variations of the word 'internet' in Polish)

Typing in the keyword box two or more words with spaces between them (without quotation marks) will result in obtaining statements including these words in that specific order.
Entering, for example, social media will trigger the system to search for the 'social media' expression and not these words used separately.

Previewing and adjusting your results

While creating your topic you can see the results, updated with every change in the query, in real time on the right. Use this feature to adjust your queries and make sure that no irrelevant results will appear on your dashboards or in the reports.
